About Us

Located on Southern Vancouver Island, Jill’s Fibres is the home of locally produced fibres.  Jill is a fibre artist, hand dyer and supporter of the Vancouver Island Fibre Shed. She focuses on wool, mohair and other fibres produced on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and occasionally the Fraser Valley in British Columbia.

Her husband Pieter (sheepshearing.ca) is the shearer who supplies her with beautiful fleeces. Pieter has been shearing sheep since he was a teenager; that’s about 40 years now! He sheared down under for about 6 years and then returned to Canada, where he now shears on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast and southwest BC.

Jill is part-way through the Master Spinner program at Olds College, Alberta. She enjoys learning new things and playing with fibre. Her favourite fibre is Romney wool. She finds it the most versatile of the local fibres. It takes colour beautifully and spins up into lovely medium-weight yarn.
